Jakarta,
Indonesia Report, February 2009
By Darin Browne
GBI Ecclesia, a vibrant, dynamic church in
Jakarta, Indonesia, hosted Bill Newman and
Darin Browne for a weekend of evangelistic
outreach.
As the capital city of the world's largest
Muslim nation, Jakarta has political pressures,
terrorism and religious tension in a scale
unknown to most Australians, so it was a joy to
see hundreds of people coming to hear Bill
Newman preach the gospel.
Indonesia is undergoing great change, and many
in business have already been affected by the
current world economic crisis, so the timing
for our visit was most opportune, with people
ready to hear the voice of God for their
situation.
Open hearts enthusiastically responded to my
music, enjoying it even when they struggled to
understand the words, so I began to sing with
our interpreter translating each phrase. This
touched these very welcoming and kind people,
so when Bill Newman began to open the Word of
God, their hearts were ready and willing to
hear the Lord speak to them.
Bill's Bible based evangelistic teaching struck
a real chord with the locals, and the response
was clearly evident at the end of each meeting,
where we saw hundreds come forward to recieve
Christ and recommit their lives to Him.
And this is just the beginning! We feel
strongly that the nation of Indonesia is
opening as never before, and we sense the
calling of the Lord to continue to build a
strong and effective evangelistic ministry in
this nation.
Already pastors are talking about bringing us
back again, and extending our ministry to other
cities in this populous muslim nation.
Please pray for the team as we consider long
term strategies which will impact the nation of
Indonesia and see it explode into revival. This
near neighbour could hold the key to an
explosion of the gospel throughout the whole of
Indonesia, and across all of Asia.
The
incredible story of
Christianity in Nagaland.
